UKAF Footballers Held To Goalless Draw Away To French Armed Forces

UK Armed Forces (UKAF) footballers have been held to a goalless draw away to the French Armed Forces.

It should have been one of the three games in this season’s Kentish Cup, but after the Dutch withdrew from the competition the French and British forces decided to play this one off match.

The French had the bulk of the first half possession, with UKAF’s best opportunities coming from set pieces, but neither keeper was tested before the break.

The best opportunity of the 90 minutes fell to UKAF.

A short Sam Atkinson corner crossed by Dan Stoneman on to the head of UKAF captain Rob Farkins, but his effort went just over the crossbar.

UKAF were at their most potent on the flanks with Danny Earl and Ryan Paddock on the left causing lots of problems to the French.

The hosts also created a few openings of their own, but both defences remained solid.

Then with ten minutes left huge controversy.

The UKAF skipper made a heavy tackle on Jean-Philippe Sabo, which the referee initially said was a yellow card.

However, after French protests he changed his mind and sent Farkins off, leaving UKAF down to ten men.

But they held on to earn a deserved draw.

Prior to the game, the players attended a service in France to remember servicemen buried in the town.
